2014-15 NHL Season Betting Preview

nhl 2014-15 betting preview

For sports bettors, there are so many things all happening at once. The 2014 NFL regular season is cruising, the World Series is upon us, and the NBA is witnessing some intriguing moves in its off season. However, we must not forget the final league that accounts for the big four, the NHL!

With a few hours to go before the puck drops! Here are the four top story lines in the NHL preseason.

2014-15 NHL Season Betting Preview

Key Injuries
In his four-season career, Derek Stepan has not missed a regular-season game. However, in an on-ice condition test this preseason, he suffered a broken fibula. The Rangers have already placed Stepan on 4-6 weeks injured reserve. If he takes as much time to recover, the Rangers are bound to miss him for the first 12 games of the league. Thus, having to determine a number of replacement options, the 2015 Stanley Cup betting line at Linesmaker has the New York Rangers at 22/1 odds.

Additionally, Detroit Red Wings will be without their most dynamic center Pavel Datsyuk. Datsyuk suffered a dislocated shoulder in an exhibition match in Pittsburgh. With their prominent center player out, the Red Wings will see their Captain Henrik Zetterberg more on the ice. Linesmaker has the betting line on Detroit at 22/1 to win the 2015 Stanley Cup.

Coaching Changes
Like always, after a disappointing season, the blame usually lands on a teams’ coaching staff and front office. Last season, the Pittsburgh Penguins failed to leave an impression. They didn’t make the Eastern Conference final for a consequent fifth time. As a result, coach Dan Bylsma, who had a 252-117-32 regular season record and a 43-35 postseason record since 2009 was fired.

Mike Johnston replaced Bylsma in the preseason. Johnston led the Portland Winterhawks from 2008 with a record of 231-114-10-10. He guided the team to win the Ed Chynoweth Cup. With the coaching changes, Pittsburgh stands 10/1 favorites on NHL betting line to win the Stanley Cup 2015, sitting right behind the Boston Bruins at 8/1.

Rookies to Watch Out
There have been quite a few rookies to watch out for in the 2014-15 NHL preseason. Ryan Pulock, Derrick Pouliot, Aaron Ekblad, Darnell Nurse, and Rasmus Ristolainen are just a few names. However, Aaron Ekblad for the Florida Panthers and Derrick Pouliot for the Penguins stand the best chances of breaking out from the lot. At Linesmaker, the Florida Panthers are pegged at 65/1 odds to win the Stanley Cup 2015.

West Powerhouse Set to Dominate the 2014-15 NHL Season
When looking at potential Stanley Cup champions, Western Conference has to be the favorite pick. The Western Conference teams are so evenly matched, that even the odds reflect a tight race to the top. At BetLM, the Blackhawks enter as 13/2 favorites to win the Stanley Cup 2015. While the Kings at 15/2, St Louis Blues at 12/1 and Anaheim Ducks at 10/1 aren’t far behind either.
